Galison Helps Anthropologie with their ABCs

In addition to designing and producing products for the Galison and Mudpuppy lines, our designers work on private label versions of our formats--and sometimes create brand new formats--for some well-known clients like Barnes and Noble, Target, and most recently, for Anthropologie.

Anthropologie was thrilled with the success of the Galison retail products they sell, and asked us to create some products for their Monogram Collection. I asked Shelby Spears, Senior Designer at Galison, about the project, and she wrote...

 

 

The monogram project came about when Anthropologie approached Galison in need of some stationery for their current store monogram collection. Aware of the success of our sticky notes and file folders, Anthropologie chose these two bestselling formats for the project.

The design process was both enjoyable and challenging. As we started the research, we soon realized that choosing the perfect typeface was going to be our biggest challenge. Each typeface embodied a different design language, and it was difficult to narrow down the many choices to one final concept. Our inspiration came from the 19th century treatment of initials and typographic flourishes, and we thought this design approach suited Anthropologie’s store aesthetic.

Our color palette was based on Galison’s best selling “Confetti Garden” sticky notes, which are also sold at Anthropologie. The colors of cherry red, blue, orange, and apple green popped and made for a bold, bright collection of monogram stationery.   

Galison’s monogram program for Anthropologie has been featured on several blogs, and we were also mentioned in Real Simple’s December issue in the article entitled “50 Fabulous Gifts Under $50.”

William Morris, Lipstick Jungle, and Galison Home Office

Our Galison Creative Director Juanita Dharmazi recently sent an inter-office email:

I was watching lipstick jungle (one of my favorite shows), and suddenly there was a scene where Victory Ford's assistant was shown holding our william morris pink file folder.

  Oh my goshh.... i was screaming like crazy... we didn't expect the product placement at all ... and really, they show the file folder quite clearly!

Thank goodness this is on DVR, so I could rewind and pause....

Anyone who is watching lipstick jungle... pay attention, this was the recent Friday show (October 31) (the day of Victory's store opening)...

Sarah Wilkins at Galison and Mudpuppy

 

Today I had a look at the The Design Alphabet, a daily blog featuring product reviews, stores, designers, etc. in the field of home and product design. The November 4th posting was for letters “V” and “W”, and featured for the letter “W” was one of our Galison and Mudpuppy illustrators, Sarah Wilkins.

Sarah illustrated four childrens’ products for Muduppy: two sets of ring flash cards---Spanish/English  and French/English, ABC Alphabet Blocks,and a Spanish-English set of 2-piece puzzles.

    

For Galison, she did the illustrations for our Chocolicious recipe portfolio of note cards that are blank inside and have recipes for Cheesecake Brownies, Chocolate Creme Cookies, Chocolate Tea Cake, or Espresso Truffles on the back.

Sarah was born in New Zealand, began illustrating in Australia, lived and worked for many years in Paris, and is once again in New Zealand.

Ann Wood Birds at Galison Holiday

Ann Wood creates great little birds! Adorable!

Several years ago our creative director saw Ann Wood's work on a design blog, and since Ann works from her studio in Brooklyn, invited her over to Manhattan for a meeting at our office.

Among other projects, Ann creates unique or only-small-quantity birds from vintage and antique fabrics. The birds are stuffed with wool and are approximately 3-1/2 inches tall, and she offers them for sale as annwood at Etsy.com, and you can see other examples at her website, Ann Wood Handmade

As our current creative director tells it, Ann put one of her little handmade fabric birds on the conference room table, and the company president and CEO laughed and laughed. Everyone loved the bird! We decided to commission her to create some holiday birds to be photographed for some Galison Holiday Time greeting cards:
