Okay, the truth is that extraordinarily creative artist/illustrator/writer/animator Gilbert Ford was actually on the Galison/Mudpuppy staff for too brief a time before leaving us to have time for his freelance work.
While working right here in this office on W. 44th Street, Gilbert created the contents for and illustrated several very popular interactive journals for children and young teens, and judging from the great games and his quirky illustrations, he must have been lots of fun on family road trips!
No one can beat his robots, and while the Robot Create a Card stationery set is technically for kids, it’s one of my favorites! He’s also really good at creating dinosaur-themed Mudpuppy games.
Here’s a link to the Mudpuppy gifts written or illustrated by Gilbert that are currently available: http://www.galison.com/search.aspx?keywords=Gilbert+Ford.
Gilbert Ford is also known for his editorial illustrations for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Atlantic Monthly, and other periodicals and book publishers.
Here’s a pro-reading billboard and print ad he designed as part of a positive parenting campaign, as described on Illustration Mondo on March 6. (Gilbert also illustrated a Reading is Cool journal Mudpuppy produced in cooperation with Reading Is Fundamental.)
He and his dog Ramona live in Brooklyn, where Gilbert has a studio in Greenpoint. Check out his profile on Illustration Mundo and then take a look at his website to see his poignant animations. (For Galison, he animated our Mudpuppy-with-a-book on the Mudpuppy home page)
We miss having Gilbert on this side of the East River and we haven’t had a karaoke party in the conference room since he’s been gone! Best wishes!
